obon season

it's obon time in hawaii.

 this year grampa sent babybug a sanrio yukata.  it's my favorite so far.

domestic obsession

my new domestic obsession...

 

i made this bento for a fishing trip over the weekend.  carrot sticks, egg, pork hash, fishcake, goldfish and spam musubi.  spam, you either love it or hate it.

 

babybug took this box to a playdate last week.  kiwi, shrimp tempura, somen with sauce and musubi.

it's been almost two weeks since babybug has been out of school.  one more week before summer school starts.  tomorrow a bunch of us moms are taking the little girls to the "big" school so they can see the campus and practice the routes to their rooms.  it's big-time now!  

 

 

today we made mini cupcakes.  last week i found out from a friend about this food blog.  you need to check out these cupcakes.  so pretty.     

home lunch

at babybug's preschool lunch was provided. in the fall her new school gives the kids the option of either buying or bringing home lunch.  this is making me excited.  i get to make all kinds of bento boxes!   

 this morning i made these for our lunch at the zoo.  babybug and i had the boxes with the mini ham & cheeses.  husband had a regular sized sandwich and the box on the right of just coleslaw and strawberries.

  

it was so fun to make and watch her eat.  i can't wait to make more.  i'm thinking mini meatloafs next.

tomorrow is babybug's preschool graduation.  i'm getting teary-eyed already.

 i bought these cute candies to make candy lei for her to give to her little friends.

 this afternoon i made two for the teachers.  i have eighteen more to go.  *sigh*

fishing fun

 babybug's class went on a field trip to ho'omaluhia botanical gardens today. 

 

 

 

 she caught two fish.  the tiny guy hanging from the red & white floater was the first one. 

 i had a lot of unexpected fun.  and, the hike was more exercise than i've had in months!

mommy had a big beer last night

yesterday was the big forty for husband.  the three of us had a quiet bbq at home.  after i drank the asahi i fell asleep while the other two watched a marathon of the deadliest catch.

my oyster topped with chili pepper oil, lemon juice, soy sauce, green onions and ginger. 

what? it's almost summer?

 it's been three months since i last posted something.  since then there has been easter egg hunts, private school stress & acceptance letters, ballet recitals, parties, husband's corporation restructuring, visit from grampa and the baby expo. 

 looking forward to preschool graduation, a long fun summer and kindergarten.  in the meantime, cleaning house and more blogging.
