there and back

where have we been?  why have i been the worst blogging mama?

last month babybug and i went to visit my dad.  it was a last minute trip.  just the two of us.  husband stayed home to take care of the two dogs, snuggles, birdie and dorothy the goldfish.  it was a nine hour flight to osaka with a three hour lay over at kansai airport.  an interesting fact, it's a man-made island.  then another two hour flight to okinawa.  it was the fifth time i've done the trip.  past four times was with husband.  traveling with a toddler, gawd, is a whole different experience.  remind me not to do it again...alone with babybug.  we'll just pay someone to take care of the animals next time.

you ask, WHERE'S THE FABRIC?!!!  you know i went crazy!  two boxes arrived safe but were already sold before they arrived home.  for just two days i listed some fabric on etsy while in japan.  at least those made it in my hands so i could complete orders.  the last four boxes are missing.  these were for me, all me!  i'm absolutely positive customs has them hostage.  i should have carried the treasures home in my luggage.  my father convinced me to send it home because my suitcases would be too heavy.  i have actually been very depressed the past week.  not being melodramatic!  japanese fabric can do that to you.

fabric and food love

i had hopes of posting yesterday but it got pushed back to today.  bolts of my favorite fabric arrived on wednesday.  they are still sitting in the plastic wrap.  love.love.love.

the fruit fabric are for little girl dresses.  i promised some for a preschool auction.  i made this one last month with some needed help on the collar.

no slow food movement around here.  the only thing that's slow cooking in my kitchen, once in a while, is my crockpot.  i really do love to cook.  but, i also can admit that i'm in love with fast food!  last night we had chili dogs.  nope, i didn't make the chili.  i just fried the hot dogs and chopped the onions.  husband picked up the chili from the best-est place. 

by the way, it's beanless :)

it's potty time

i've been wanting to post the new japanese fabric my dad brought home for me.  so, here they are.  i stare, touch and daydream what to do with them.  sounds pretty freaky if you're not into fabric.  i know i'm safe since you all are fabric freaks, too.

   

i'm thinking maybe matching dresses for babybug and me.  the cream background for her and the khaki for me.  so orla kiely that they kind of look like knock-offs.

and, they're back...

isn't this guy a cutie?  i can't get enough of my caterpillars.  husband cut the tree to a stump after the caterpillars ate it bare.  i forgot to take a picture.  but, it grew back within a month and the butterflies found it fast.

babybug tried all weekend to make doodoo (that's what we call it around here) in the potty toilet.  earlier tonight (it's still sunday night for me) she screamed "doodoo...potty toilet" and we both ran!  half dropped on the side of the potty but the other half made it in!  hip-hip-hooray!  that makes three times now.  i gave up on forcing. instead, i just let her know she'd get some chocolate if she was successful.  we also had success with snuggles on saturday.  he found his potty tray and has been making good use of it.  i've had a lot of rabbits growing up but never used a tray with wood chips.  i'm amazed at how it keeps the smell down, especially for indoors. 

as you can tell, it was a good weekend with the potty :)  happy monday!

good morning

it's five in the morning here.  i went to bed at eleven last night with babybug and woke up bright-eyed an hour ago.  i ended up just buying this new (and a few more) amy butler fabric that i totally love. 

i really wanted the cherry/red color as well but they were already out-of-stock.  i've been wanting them to sew babybug a dress for her preschool interview next week.  yes, an interview for preschool.  how stressing is that?!  more about that soon.

a few days ago kirsten found a richard scary activity book while thrifting.  it brought back memories.  i knew i had mine somewhere in our junk room.  the great thing about buying my grandfather's house is that after so many generations, my junk old stuff is still hiding somewhere.  it was right where i thought it would be.

my dad pasted the store fronts onto a poster board as a backdrop.  of course, the paper cars are no where to be found.  look how cute the stores are.  complete with silverfish nibbles.  this thing must be at least twenty-nine years old. i think i was about five when he made it for me.  sorry to ramble about my old stuff, but ahh, the memories.

okay, i think i'm going back to bed.

one-hundredth post

it's almost christmas and i can't wait.  i haven't been this excited about christmas since i was a kid.  last night babybug rearranged the presents under the tree over and over again.  each time she made huffy-puffy sounds alike it was grueling work moving them.  she asked a few times if she could open them.  geezz, i was really tempted to let her.  she seems to understand a bit of christmas beyond receiving presents.  the past few weeks she's been wanting to get into the christmas wrapping scene.  now, she wraps whatever she finds around and proclaims, "this is for grandma", "this is for my daday" and everyone else she knows.  little sweetie pie.

last night we went here for dinner with my in-laws.  she played well with her cousins from chicago .  she's seen them only once before.   i managed to finish a christmas dress for her just in time.  i had to post this picture since her seating posture is so appropriate for the teahouse.

 

now, something to give away.  this is my one-hundredth post.  sure took me a while.  it's been almost a year.  i found this cotton fabric at the craft store the other day.  i thought it would be nice for a give-away.  so, you know the drill.  if you like it,  leave a comment.  i'll wait until after christmas and have husband pull a name.  lots of people seem to be taking blogging breaks.

i'm ditching the last two hand-made gifts, waiting for husband to come home and heading out for some shopping.  not looking forward to finding parking.

fab fabric

thanks to all of you who thought about us after the earthquake.  it was really nice to get those comments.

here's  some new fabric i got.  my dad sent me the folded pieces.  it's been a while since he's bought me some fabric.  i love love the squares and can't wait to make some bags with it.  i bought the big flowers on saturday.   they're actually cloth shower curtains.  nice cotton weight.  i love love it, too.  makes me feel so cheerful just looking at it.

next, i'm asking for your help with some ideas.  actually pleading.  husband got a promotion and a new branch.  his assistant and another lady at his old branch are throwing him a promotion/going away party.  i offered to make the thank you/party favors.  but, i have absolutely no ideas.  since i'm not throwing the party  i'm lost.  it's a pool party and whole families invited.  the only thing i could think of was big bags of candied popcorn as a family favor or fortune cookies individually wrapped.  the problem is that the party is this saturday!  i would rather buy something such as prepackaged goodies or snacks to save me the trouble.  i need to work fast on this.  any suggestions would be great :)   

little guys get sent to new home, fabric shopping and ugly betty

sorry for the delayed response over these little fellows.  a few of you were willing to take in and adopt one of these guys.  the problem was i wanted to give all of them away in one shot.  one person taking all meant less work for me in packing up and shipping out.  yes, i'm a lazy butt.  sally was willing to take all of them in one swoop :)  still, it was only today that i finished wrapping and sending them to their new home. 

about an hour ago i purchased these from reprodepot.  could not resist.

earlier in the evening i watched ugly betty.  just happened to turn on the tv.  we usually never watch regular tv, only wiggles, elmo and maisy dvds.  maisy is the newest obsession with babybug.  "mama, watch maisy please?" over and over.  anyway, back to betty...i thought it was such a cute show.  every time she tripped i giggled.  everyone of those smiles made me say "oh how cute".  husband rolling his eyeballs, sighing and insisting that babybug shouldn't be watching this garbage.  well, i liked it and will definitely watch it next week if i remember.

friday stuff

today we had lunch with good old friends from medford, oregon.  the husband used to work with my husband at the bank, sheesh, lets say about ten years ago(?)  they are super people.  so fun and thoughtful.  we even got our dog from them as a puppy.

the new amy butler fabric is here.   i just put in my order.  so much to choose from.  i couldn't make up my mind but wanted to make the free shipping.  i promised myself, no more fabric purchases.  i have a serious problem.  seriously.

wednesday night husband and i went on a sort-of date.  gwanma had babybug all day and instructed us to go out for dinner.  we went out for sushi.  ahhh, a pre-babybug meal.  later we had desert at gwanma's house.  therefore, i missed project runway!  i hope they show the rerun tonight. 

tomorrow pictures of swap things.  another arrived in the mail today!

taking a little break

omg, it's 10 p.m. and i have eleven more bags to sew!  crap!  so, i'm taking a little blogging break.  husband took thursday and friday off so i could sew.  wednesday night i stayed up all night.  by thursday night things looked blurry.  i was sewing the same mistake twice.  today husband took babybug to the aquarium again.  (we live only ten minutes away and bought an annual pass.  it's so much cleaner than the zoo!)  they brought home dim sum and jamba juice for lunch.  yummy!

one of my fabric orders arrived today.  this is why i'm making eleven more bags.  another order didn't make it in time.  thank goodness!

arrgh!  i'm so tired.  i think i'm posting because i don't want to sew anymore.  it stopped being fun a while ago.  will take pictures tomorrow of bags and post later.  okay, enough procrastinating!  back to work, ugh!  it's going to be an all-nighter again.
